Anne Sedgwick reads 'The recipe: the dish that saved my bacon' from The Village in the Valley, by Corinna Sargood.
The village in the Valley: travels in Italy and Mexico is a memoire recently published by the illustrator Corinna Sargood. As a young woman, on leaving school, she went to spend the summer in Italy to look after the two young children of an Italian family. In 'The dish that saved my bacon', she recounts an episode in which she finds herself faced with "a duel" with recipes as the weapon.
The village in the Valley is published by Prospect Books. Corinna Sargood illustrated Honey From a Weed, also published by Prospect Books.
