Matthew Fort and Prue Leith

Very enjoyable banter. Pity that Fort's calculated self- deprecatory banter artfully dodged Prue Leith's more pointed questions.

    A most entertaining video.

Would it be acceptable for a theatre critic to spend three quarters of his review talking about himself and just devote an end paragraph to the play? Why should it be any different with food critics?

  • Guest (Jude)

To my mind Jay Rayner gets the balance about right - entertaining but never snide and the main focus is the restaurant not himself.

let's add Giles Coran, What he lacks in talent he makes up in ego.
Wish his dad was still around.

According to Matthew Fort AA Gill regards himself as an entertainer. However, if he can't entertain without being snide and sarcastic about restaurants that can't retaliate then perhaps he should think of choosing a different career where such qualities might amuse. I suggest he takes a look at Fay Maschler's reviews to see how it can be done without resorting to smart-ass and unpleasant comments. Judging from the highly amusing lashing he received from another quarter recently his time must now be coming to an end. AA Gill may be clever but at heart he's empty.

  • Lovely conversation piece!
